Gown Saga

I’m also thankful to God for helping me and for giving me the greatest support. H2b was really supportive all the way, my mom, sisters, best friend, coordinator, great boss, tapos my w@w pa. Grabe! Daming blessings. =)

Anyway, I’ve done a lot of thinking and soul searching on what I really want. I’ve realized that the gown wasn’t really bad in the first place. Kasi it was I who chose the cloth so gusto ko talaga sha. I was disappointed because I’ve instructed the mananahi to make it a-line but unfortunately hindi nasunod. I’ve showed her a picture in one of the bridal mags of the design that i want. The only addition are the cap sleeves. Yung nasa mag kasi strapless. Feb was our first fitting. I thought
lining pa lang ang I-fit but then….lo and behold, the gown was almost done. There is something I didn’t like pero hindi ko ma-figure out kung ano. Siguro nga yung lower part kasi nga gusto ko a-line. I’ve talked to the mananahi and asked her why the cut is straight, she told me na kulang yung tela and yung width daw ng tela ko 45 inches lang kaya hindi pwede ang bias cut. I told her my concerns and she said na gagawin nyang mermaid para daw gumanda. Last Sunday, I went to their house for the final
fitting. I still didn’t like what I saw. So that was the whole story, I want to share it here baka may makuhang points yung mga b2bs who are starting to prepare. Here are my lessons learned :

(1) Our wedding gown is important and wag naman natin tipirin. It’s okay to scrimp on the entos gown but never on your own gown. The spotlight is on you on that day apos pangit naman kung mukha kang kawawa.

(2) Having said #1, go to a reliable gown maker. Yung sure mo na magagawa yung gusto mo. Scout around and compare each one. In my case, that mananahi made my gown last time when I was a bridesmaid. Maganda sha and all but I haven’t considered na iba yung wedding gown. I didn’t bother to take a look at the pictures of the bridal gowns that she previously made.

The damage has been done and I don’t think getting angry at myself and to the mananahi will do us good. Besides, i have my fair share in this whole booboo. So, i’ve decided to look for a solution. It was a good thing that in the midst of it all, I’ve read Abie ni Howell’s rating on Cecil Abad. I called him and told him my problem. He told me to come to his shop so that he could take a look at the gown and see if he can alter it to my liking. I posted my options in this e-group and a lot of you have validated that #2 is the practical choice. I’ve visited a lot of
stores with ready made gown but I haven’t found the one that I’m looking for. Since I couldn’t sleep thinking about it and I couldn’t afford to waste time, I told my boss my problem and he agreed to give me a leave yesterday.

My mom and I went to Cecil and I loved his idea. He drew his concept and I think the gown will be unique and fabulous. My mom and I also felt that he is sincere in helping us and even agreed to our “tawad”. I was sooooo relieved. He even reassured me that everything will be beautiful. Tawa pa kami ng tawa kasi sami nya na may magic wand daw sha so there is no reason for me to fret. I’m happy for my gown will be a-line and he modified the sleeves. It will off-shoulder instead of capped sleeves. I have to agree kasi pretty talaga nung binababa nya yung sleeves.

My first fitting will be on April 16. I’m keeping my hopes high. Di ba dapat lagi tayo positive? I’ll update you guys kung ano mangyayari. Nga pala, my mom decided to have her gown made there too. Ganda nung design ni Cecil.

Again thanks to Cheryl, Marj, Jacq ni Simon, Jenn ni Tabs, Jenn (nag text pa. Thank you sis), Grace ni Oliver, Cynch (Naku sis! Napaka-enlightening ng mga sinabi mo), Alynn, Kath , Mec, Tanya, Abie ni Howell, fellow May brides Maybelle / Tricia / Roda, Marla, Karla ni Alex, Shiny (winner yung message mo, very sensible). Grabe ang dami nyo.

Sorry napahaba but I hope makatulong din sa iba ito.. Until the next post on this napakahabang gown saga…… (hihirit pa talaga) =)
