Nursing Homes

There comes a point where the family has neither the expertise nor the money to keep an elderly at home. Sometimes the care-giver’s health collapses from trying to give old parents a 24 hoar a day care. At situations like these, nursing homes may be the best care available. However, it is best to selective in choosing one. According to studies about 1/5 of nursing homes are potentially dangerous to residents and almost half only met minimum standards.

Here are some of the criteria that a good nursing home should satisfy:
Clean
Well maintained
Staffed by qualified personnel

By doing your utmost to provide parents the very best of care under the circumstances, you can relieve yourself of feelings of guilt that could otherwise disturb you.

Shuttle Service

We were thinking of buying a van and use it as a shuttle service. You know the kind that most employees ride to go to their offices in Makati or Ortigas. An Urvan can carry around 18 passengers and each will pay 50 bucks so that translates to 900 per trip. If the driver can make 4 trips in a day then you get a gross of 3,600 a day.

We were still thinking and this is something worth venturing in the future when we have money to invest. Of course we need to have a Commercial Van Insurance too. This would be a good protection in case accidents happen. You know this cannot be avoided so we want it insured for security reasons.

Easy Meals

I was inspired by Aggie to write this piece when she posted about a question on easy to prepare meals. I used to do these because our current house help is no good at cooking.  (Buti na lang si hubby natuto magluto ng meals so he cooks our dinner na.)

A pressure cooker is the best ally in cooking the easy way. You just put everything in the pot and some veggies and you have a nice meal in a flash. Here are some of the meals I cook using our cooker:

(1) Nilagang baka – I buy beef shank in the supermarket. Put it in the crock pot with onions, peppercorns and water. Let it simmer until tender. Once done, put in the potatoes. As soon as they are tender put in the rest of the vegetables like cabbage, pechay and baguio beans.

(2)Pork Spare Ribs – I buy rib shoulder and have it cut into sinigang cut. Sautee garlic and onions in the cooker. Put in the ribs when the onion is somewhat transparent. Open 1 can of black beans, wash it and put it in the cooker. Add 2 cups water. Cook until tender. And seasoning and kintsay to taste.

(3)Paksiw na Pata – I use the sliced pata that you can find in the grocery. Put them in the cooker with vinegar, soy sauce and sugar. All ¾ cups each. Add bay leaf, dried banana blossoms and peppercorns. Cook it in the cooker until tender.

Another trick in quick cooking is boil around 1.5 kilos of kasim or pigue. Save the broth in the freezer. Both meat and broth can be used in cooking menudo, stir fries and other guisado meals. And since the meat is already cooked you can finish everything in no time.

If you have any additional tips then feel free to share them here. :)

Payday Loans is a quick and easy way to bridge your cash needs between pay days without a credit check. It is a small short-term loan that can range from $100 up to $1,500. I lost IT?

Yesterday something happened that gave me a scare. We went to Mc Donalds Valero to buy lunch. I was holding 2 plastic bags of food, my mobile phone and my wallet. I arranged my food on the table as soon as we came back from the office and saw my mobile phone. And I was shocked to see that my wallet was not beside it.

I searched the table and it’s not there. Fearing that I might have left it in McDo, I returned. The lady in the counter said she did not notice any wallet lying around in that area. Where could that thing possibly be? I dread losing my wallet because it contains all my credit cards and a lot of cash.

When I came back in the office, my colleagues are surveying the area too looking to the lost item. I then decided to check my pedestal…lo and behold! The wallet is there. I must have put it there when we frist came back from McDo and I just forgot.

Whew! I’m like that a lot of times especially if I’m pre-occupied thinking of something else. Seems like that I’m doing some things unconsciously.

Gastric Band to Lose Weight

Have you heard about the use of gastric band to lose weight? This is the procedure called Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding which is also known as LAGB or the Lap-Band ® System procedure. How is this done? A surgeon inserts an inflatable adjustable gastric band through small laparoscopic incisions and positions the band around the portion of the stomach. This will create a small stomach pouch and passageway into the lower part of the stomach. As such, this will make the patient feel full and satiated making him/her eat less. The result will be an eventual weight loss for the patient.

JourneyLite.com specializes in this procedure. You can go to their website and read more on this topic.
