Superchild Syndrome

My parents have trained us to be achievers especially in academics. Papa always tells us stories on how he was a valedictorian from elementary until he graduated high school. I guess it was always expected that me and my siblings should be at least on Top Three of the class. So we learned to study hard to please our parents. We try to stay on top of our class and join quiz bees and math Olympiads. The medals and trophies we bring home bring so much joy and pride to our parents. They even made a cabinet to display all our awards.

I understand them because we grew up achieving more and it built our self confidence. But sometimes it is really stressful competing with others just to gain parents’ approval. Looking back, I never got to enjoy my childhood and teen years fully because I was always stuck at home studying. Besides, success as a person is never measured based on academic performance.

So I hope I won’t do the same to my son. I’ll let him relax and learn on his own pace. I won’t force him to go to school at an early age if he isn’t ready yet. Of course we must nurture their gifts but not to the point that it’s causing them too much stress already.

Just my thoughts.

I’m Dead Tired

This is a very unusual day. There are so many tasks in the office not to mention a lot of issues that needs sorting out. Before I knew it, it was already 6pm and I haven’t expressed milk for the little boy the whole time. Waaaah! He has a lot of milk in stock so I decided to just pump once a day. I kept postponing and postponing and I totally forgot the time.

I did three conference calls and 1 live meeting. I want to write something good and creative here on my blog but don’t have the time and energy anymore. I hope tomorrow will be better. I have a lot of stories to share. I just need some quiet time to write.

Home Warranty

It’s really a hassle to busy people like me when something breaks down at home. Added to the inconvenience of having someone do the repairs is the high cost of repair or replacement. That’s why in the US, a lot of people are getting home warranties such as American Home Shield. This is a protection against the expense of repairing or replacing covered home appliances and mechanical systems that will breakdown due to wear and tear.

When one of these covered household systems go kaput, you can simply call their toll free number and a technician will be scheduled to do the repairs for just a small trade service call fee.

So if you’re a busy person, having something like this might be convenient.

Web Design

As I’ve mentioned in my previous posts, my father in law is really keen on having his own real estate website. He is thinking that it will do him good as he will get a lot of clients and thus be able to help him sell more.

I’ve seen a good web design company called Tru Green that might interest him. They offer web design, and development services that includes Content Management systems to small and medium sized companies. I’ve looked the samples of their work and they look so nice. They are all work of art. :) Their site also lists out the procedures on how to work with them and a form that you can send online to ask for a quotation.

Shaken

Did you feel the earthquake earlier? I was having lunch here in my desk when the building swayed back and forth. Gosh! I was really scared that I screamed “lindol”. For a moment I just froze. It did not help that the tremors lasted for a long time. Once it stopped, I called home to check up on M0rn1ng and the little boy. Good thing they were safe as well. I hope there isn’t any casualty.

I checked the details of the quake and it is said to be at magnitude 4.2. you can read the whole thing here.
