What to Do About Bed Bugs

Published by nice under Friends, Health, Home

My best friend is recently complaining about bed bugs in her house. Her 2 year old son was bitten and it pains her to see him itch because of it. Besides the bites don’t look very nice. They were all over his son’s legs and they look swollen red.

I remember that we had the same incident when we were young and mom said it was due to our dirty mattress. She had it vacuum and left in the sun to dry. She said that it kills the pests. It works because we never had bed bugs again.

I got curious and looked it up in the net and found this informative bed bug site. It explains the cause of bed bugs and the effective ways of getting rid of them. I found it very useful and I will ask my friend to read it too. I hope she gets rid of those bugs soon.

Finally! I felt relived

Published by nice under Andre Miguel, Home, Mommy Talks

I’m talking about the yaya. We only got 8 days to show patience and long suffering and after that she’s gone. This is our second household help since our little boy was born and she’s been with us a little over a year now. When we hired her, she didn’t know anything about childcare and housework. We did our outmost best to teach and train her but to no avail. Masyadong masakit na sa ulo and sobrang dami ng kapalpakan. It reached the point na kahit libre na sha eh ayaw na namin. We just want her out to relieve us with the current stress that she brings.

I haven’t vented it out in this blog not until now because I don’t think it will bring any good. Late last year we were already looking for a replacement but we weren’t able to find any. So we stuck with her.

Two weeks ago, an opportunity presented itself and someone from our congregation is looking for a part time job. M0rn1ng and I spoke about this and we agreed to get her as a replacement. We will do away with any house help and just hire a babysitter to look after B.boy in the late afternoons while M0rn1ng is at his food cart biz. I think this new arrangement will work as my sisters have pledged help with the household chores.

So by the end of the month, our current and long time headache will be gone. I couldn’t be much happier. :)

Consider Before You Buy

Published by nice under Home

Perhaps the primary consideration if you are contemplating a home purchase is your financial position. What monthly payments for home loans can you afford? How much money have you for the down payment? If you do not have enough, what sources for funds are available to you? How will you pay the money back? How much will the interest cost?

It is wise not to underestimate the cost of owning your own house. For example, a person may look at an apartment for rent and then look at a house, the monthly payments for which, after the down payment, are exactly the same. So he may decide that, because the payments are equal, he can afford one as easily as the other.

To be realistic, however, the potential buyer should add to the monthly house payments several other expenses, such as loss of interest from the cash used for the down payment, property taxes, insurance, heating expenses, water bills, maintenance and repairs. When these expenses are carefully calculated, the actual out-of-pocket cost of being in the house may be 50 to 90 percent higher than living in an apartment!

Of course, there are also arguments in favor of buying a house. The new homeowner is making payments on something that he can eventually own. He may rightly argue, too, that apartment rents go up regularly, whereas now, with the exception of property taxes, he has reasonably stabilized his costs. Further, he may reason that with the spiraling inflation of the world’s monetary system, the best hedge to protect oneself against inflation is real estate.

Another consideration that may weigh in favor of a house is the welfare of the children. The environment in the crowded atmosphere of many apartment buildings is not good. In fact, the owners of these often prefer tenants without children, and thus may not provide any kind of recreation facilities. While mother may have small jobs for her daughters around an apartment, many of the chores that provide such excellent training for boys, such as cutting lawns, shoveling snow and cleaning up the yard, usually do not exist.

On the other hand, the apartment dweller may point out that when time is not consumed by these chores more hours are available to train children in various other worthwhile activities. For Christian families this may mean more time for Bible study and the ministry. Apartments just do not carry the load of extra work that is inescapable to the property owner.

Marriage

Published by nice under Family, Home

MARRIAGE—for some, the word evokes pleasant thoughts. For others, it elicits heartache. “I feel emotionally divorced,” laments one wife. “I feel neglected and lonely all the time which prompted me to obtain Marriage Therapy.”

What causes two people who once vowed to love and cherish each other to become so distant? One factor is a lack of education about what marriage entails. “We enter the institution without any training whatsoever,” observes Marriage Counselors.

That few today possess such know-how is borne out by a study conducted by The National Marriage Project, a research initiative of Rutgers University in New Jersey, U.S.A. “Many in this study have grown up with unhappily married or divorced parents,” write the directors of the project. “They know exactly what a bad marriage is, but they are less sure of what a good marriage looks like. Some can only describe a good marriage as ‘the opposite of my parents.’”

Has the love that once existed between you and your mate begun to fade? Do you feel trapped in a loveless marriage? One wife of 26 years said: “The pain that is experienced with this kind of relationship can hardly be described. It is constant and all-permeating.” Rather than resign yourself to an unfulfilling marriage, why not resolve to do something about it? Saving your Marriage is worth your efforts.

Recent Home Improvements

Published by nice under Home

I’m mighty proud with the recent home improvements that we did. We bought a nice looking china cabinet that saves a lot of space and keeps the small kitchen are organized. We also fixed the broken wardrobe cabinet.

The clogged kitchen sink was treated and it now works like a dream. Also the broken bathroom faucets have been replaced.

Now, the most important thing that needs fixing is our air-con. We desperately need this especially now that it’s sizzling hot. How about you? What are the recent home improvements that you’ve done?

Home Safety for Elderly

Published by nice under Health, Home

We take great pains in arranging our homes to make it safe for a child. We put away all potential hazard, install cabinet locks and stair guards. Same arrangement should be done when we have elderly people at home.

I can remember how many times my grandmother slipped in our bathtub. It was sad to see her encounter such accidents as she is elderly and frail. It easy to avoid these kinds of mishap if we install walk in bathtubs.

This will really prevent slipping from happening.

Success!

I was able to withdraw my blog money from Paypal to BPI.  Yipeee!  I’m giddy with joy.  :)  I’m saving that money to buy some new stuff for the house.  We badly need a china cabinet and the sofa needs some replacing too.  I hope I have enough money to buy all these.   I’ve been into cleaning and making more room for the little boy to play around these past few days.  I hope we can get our trust kuya William to do all the work needed to create more space.  I’m so excited.

Knock Knock!

Published by nice under Home

Last month, we tore down one of our room’s door because we forgot to bring the key with us and it was locked. We desperately need to open it up so we have no choice but do the barbaric way of tearing it down.

We don’t mind as it is a bit old anyway. So now we are looking for a door hardware to replace the broken one.

Any good suggestions?

Furnitures

Published by nice under Blogging Benefits, Home

I love visiting furniture shops. Whenever I get the chance, I visit shops like Abea, Our Home and other stores that sell furniture.

I do that online too. And one that I frequently visit is furniturefromhome.com. They have a wide variety of good quality beds to choose from. I’m dreaming of something like this:

I love their living room furniture too. Just take a look at this.

It looks so contemporary. I would love to have a sectional sleeper sofa but it won’t fit into our tiny apartment.

I love this site because of the wide variety of choices it offers and they’ve got it at a very reasonable price.

On Bathroom Vanities

Published by nice under Family, Home

I love decorating the house. My dad knows it so he promised to give us some nice bathroom vanities. He’s running a hardware business in Ilocos and he has a lot of stuff to spruce up our home.

I told him that I want a simple design and something that would maximize the space. We live in a tiny apartment and we would like to save some space. We didn’t even bought bulky furnitures because of that.

Oh I’m so excited! I hope his stocks come in soon. I’d like to see what type of bathroom vanities he has for us.

Fabrics

My dream is really to have a house that we could call our own one of these days. We’re working on it but I’m not sure when it would be a reality. I can visualize how much fun it would be decorating it. I love looking at fabrics for upholstery and curtains and I just found the perfect ones at Robert Allen fabrics.

I love the designs and the quality of their fabrics. Now, if we have our place to spruce up.

Land

A piece of land is always a good investment. It is something that appreciates value over time and you can always pass on to generations to follow. My officemate told me that his grandfather bought their property in Bel-air for only 50 cents per square meter and it is now worth millions.

For those in the US, there are Florida land for sale that is worth putting your money on. If you have something to invest, why not take it as an option.
