Fire!!!

Published by nice under My Thoughts, News

We breathe a sigh of relief that we already sold the panwich stall when the fire engulfed Puregold Libertad last Thursday. The fire started at 3am but it was only contained at 7pm. The next day, the firewall collapsed and the fire eat up the nearby houses. My heart went out to those who lost their homes.

In the US, they have companies that offers fire restoration services. They offer clean up and repair of fire and smoke damage. These companies can be reached 24/7 so you can expect quick response in times of emergency.

I just wonder if we have similar companies here in the Philippines.

Typhoon Frank Has Left

Published by nice under News

I’m so glad to see the sun shining brightly this morning. Typhoon Frank has left the metro. I can see all our neighbors cleaning up their backyards with leaves and broken twigs. I could imagine that the cleanup process must be tough for those flooded areas. Imagine all your clothes and things soaked in water.

We experienced that when we were still living in Marikina. If I remember correctly, it was the time of the Cherry Hills tragedy. It took us one whole day to clean up our small house. The water that came inside were muddy and murky. It was so tiring to do it all by ourselves.

In the US, they have a disaster cleanup company to help them out. They are open 24/7 and they guarantee that they are in the scene in 30 minutes within the continental US.

Accidents

Published by nice under Blogging Benefits, News, Products

We were watching the news yesterday when they broadcast about a car blast. It was a brand new car and two doctors were riding on it when it happened. Good thing they were able to get out of the car before the blast so they were not severely harmed.

The firefighters said that some sparks in the car and gasoline leak might cause it. The car was a total wreck and can no longer be used. I’m not quite sure if the car insurance can pay for these types of accidents. But with the high probability of car accidents nowadays, it’s always good to get an auto insurance quote if you don’t have an auto insurance yet. It can save you a lot of trouble in case bad things happen.

Caring for our Environment

It is really depressing to see our environment deteriorate. Man has caused a lot of damage to nature due to greed, selfishness and mismanagement of natural resources. We have harvested what we sowed. We experience weird climates due to global warming, we get different kinds of diseases due to extreme pollution, a lot of animals have been extinct and we have a huge garbage problem.

These problems moved concerned individuals to take action and save the environment. They run environmental campaigns to keep inform people on how they can help save this planet from degradation. Some even went as far as creating and marketing eco friendly or green products. GreenandMore.com offers hundreds of these products. This company lives in their mission and follows green practices such as not using plasticware, using recycled supplies and kitchen goods and 100% recycled cardboard boxes. They also offer energy saving appliances, solar power products, water conservation, eco furniture, lighting and many more that gives us great alternatives that will help us be eco friendly.

Their website is full of useful information and their blog is just as great. There’s even a portion called “GreenMusings” where their employees and public share stories that helps save the environment complete with photos to make it interesting to the readers. They also help support environmental charities such as Oceana and Healthy Child Healthy World.

I’m glad there to know that there is a company like this.

Sports

Published by nice under Blogging Benefits, News, Sports

In sports, Philippines rarely bag any medals for basketball. However, we excel in combat sports such as boxing, karate and aikido. Who would forget the success of Manny Pacquiao and how he is hailed as one of world’s greatest fighter. We also had a lot of great athletes on the field of karate. This is despite the fact that we lack proper equipments.

I was listening to the news a few months ago and somebody from the national sports arena told how pitiful the condition of these athletes. He further relates that some of the kids competing on the international level don’t have proper karate sparring gear.

But what do you expect? We are in a third world country and sports has never been on the top priority.

Meteor Rain

Published by nice under M0rn1ng, News, Science

Have you seen any shooting stars last night? Morn1ng saw 8 and he was super happy. My sister saw 5. I on the other hand did not see anything. B.boy was super sleepy and doesn’t want to stay at the veranda. The news said they estimate that there will be 100 shooting stars per hour between 10pm to 2 am.

There will be another one on January 3, 2008. It is called Quadrantids while last night was Geminids. I hope I would be able to see a real live shooting star by then.

Shaken

Published by nice under My Thoughts, News

Did you feel the earthquake earlier? I was having lunch here in my desk when the building swayed back and forth. Gosh! I was really scared that I screamed “lindol”. For a moment I just froze. It did not help that the tremors lasted for a long time. Once it stopped, I called home to check up on M0rn1ng and the little boy. Good thing they were safe as well. I hope there isn’t any casualty.

I checked the details of the quake and it is said to be at magnitude 4.2. you can read the whole thing here.

National Pardon

Published by nice under News

I was watching a morning news show a couple of days before at GMA 7 where they differentiated amnesty and pardon. I was glad it was discussed because I often hear those terms but never ever know what it really meant in legal term. The resident lawyer said that while pardon forgives the criminal offense, amnesty is better as it forgives and forgets. This means that once an amnesty is given it not only forgives the offense it also wipes out any record of it.

I did some reading and there are some countries like ours that provides pardons. The constitution pardons Canada citizens. They even have non-profit organizations that help with the granting of Canadian pardon. Not only that they also assist in application of US waiver entry.

Pardon when granted will remove criminal records and it will allow the person to live a life without the restrictions associated to having one. The US Entry waiver that is granted by the US government allows legal access to the US despite the existence of a criminal record.

This is good of everyone who did wrong but has taken steps to correct it. But it is sometimes difficult to live a new life because of all the stigmas and barriers associated with a criminal record. Some could not find a decent job. However, it is fair that they be given another chance. So it is good that there are professionals who are willing to offer help on this regard. It all starts infree counseling. They will give and honest and reliable advice on what to do and what applications are really needed.

I’m not sure if we have the same programs here in our country but it would be definitely be helpful if we have. It will help people who are rehabilitating get on with their lives without the usual trauma and stigma brought about by a criminal record.
