Laptop and Printer

We have been using my sister’s laptop for more than 4 years now. It’s an HP pavilion entertainment PC bought from the US and shipped here by her friend for free. We use the laptop for research, internet, writing and printing documents as well. Ivy even bought a Canon printer that we can use for color printing. However, after 4 years the printer has been showing signs of inefficiency and we are having problems printing.   That’s why we are trying to purchase a new one and we might probably get an HP printer soon.

iPad in SG

This is the new iPad that we bought in Singapore  for my colleague in the office. We got her iPad for S$828 which has 16GB memory and wifi connectivity. It was launched in Singapore on July 23 and all of the stocks were sold out. We were surprised that we were able to purchase one last unit in Funan IT mall. They were also selling insurance for ipads but we told the store owner that we’ll just probably get one back home. I believe that my colleague is enjoying every minute using her new hi-tech gadget

Why I Like our City!

One of the reasons why we opted to buy the 1.3S model of the Honda City is because of its advanced audio system. The City keeps me connected to the music I love to listen. Morning uses his iPhone 3G while I use my 8GB iPod nano. You can also use MP3 files, USB flash drives, and CD’s. Honda City’s USB and AUX jacks, along with its CD player, are fully integrated with digital media dashboard controls. That means ports for more players and the flexibility to play a range of digital file types. Like music itself, the City breaks through boundaries—and will make you feel good every time.

Repairing Nokia 6120

Daddy has been using a Nokia 6120 classic for almost 2 years now. He will be getting a new free cellphone from Smart by September after the two year lock-in period has expired. However, his cellphone would not switch on last Friday and had it fixed the following day. The technician told him that the phone was full of memory, both the SIM and phone memory. So it had to be reprogrammed and it was repaired in 15 minutes. Daddy probably needs to buy memory for his Nokia 6120 so it won’t break down again.

Is 4-wheel drive safer?

Many believe that it is always safer to drive a four-wheel-drive vehicle, especially in snow and ice. However, “when it comes to stopping, four-wheel-drive vehicles have no advantage over two-wheel-drive vehicles,” reports The Wall Street Journal. According to insurance marketing officials, some of the most popular models actually have “worse than average injury and collision insurance claims.” Evidently, many drivers become overconfident and take unnecessary risks when driving vehicles with four-wheel drive. A researcher at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, noted that “through movies and TV, people have come to associate four-wheel drives with a sense of independence and freedom.” This sense of power and invincibility can interfere with sound judgment, which is ultimately the best policy for safe driving.

Pain Detection Tool

For many years, a real dilemma for legal and medical experts has been determining the veracity of personal-injury claims. Is the victim really in great pain, or is he feigning it so as to get a large monetary settlement?

A new method of pain detection—thermography—may be the answer. “The technique uses infrared sensors to make a multi-colored picture of temperature variations on the skin,” says a report in The Globe and Mail of Canada. Pain in soft tissue, which cannot be detected by X ray, will show up in the infrared picture because of temperature differences due to muscle spasms or constriction of blood vessels. Courts in several states in the US have accepted thermograms as evidence. Thus, thermography according to Tennessee injury lawyers may be a blessing to the honest sufferer and help to expose the malingerer.

Windows 7

I’ve been using Windows Vista with my laptop at home since my sister got her HP notebook last year. While in the office I use an older version called Windows XP. Microsoft announced that they will be releasing this November a new operating system called Windows 7. The new operating system can be installed in personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs and media center PCs. We will probably upgrade our OS once Windows 7 is available in the market.

Developments in Computer Software

There also have been significant developments in computer “software” or the programs that control what computers do. In the past, if you wanted a computer to do some work for you, it was necessary to code your request into computer language. Such “programming” is complicated business and takes a great deal of time and effort. The programmer needs a detailed knowledge of a computer’s makeup. For this reason, computers traditionally have been the exclusive domain of those in the computing profession. But that is not the case today. The last decade has seen the development of control programs or “operation systems” that “manage” the computer and make it more usable. They allow users to communicate their needs directly to the computer in human language. Doctors, scientists, schoolboys, teachers, housewives—in fact, even persons with no knowledge of how a computer works—can get one to perform by using simple, English-like commands. Furthermore, the control programs “time-share,” that is, they enable many users to share computer time, allowing the enormous capacity to be used in serving many persons all at the same time.
Another very important software development involves computer communication via telephone lines. In recent years, the telephone networks have been used to carry coded data between terminals and computers. Due to the growth of this kind of activity, the public telephone authorities are cooperating internationally to develop networks exclusively for conveying computer information. Unlike the public telephone networks, these “data networks” will allow for multi-way conversations between machines.
Whereas the advances in hardware have made the computer more powerful, advances in software have made it more usable. Since computers are now more usable than in earlier years, manufacturers have been able to offer personal computing for the first time.
