First Family Long Road Trip

Published by nice under Andre Miguel, Mommy Talks, Travel

I took a half day leave at the office today. I have to prepare for our road trip tomorrow. We are going home to Ilocos. Papa just recently went out from the hospital and we wanted to pay him a visit. It will be the first time that our little boy will be in such a long car drive. Previously, we ride the plane for convenience. Now that he is a little bit older, I think he is ready for long trips. I hope he is.

I any case, I’m packing his whole entertainment showcase. That includes his favorite toys and Dora and Barney DVDs. I also have to make sure that his clothes and shoes are comfortable. Speaking of which, I have to ensure that my attire is comfy too. I’ve been eyeing those Asgi shoes for this trip but I don’t think it is available locally. If only I can order online and have this delivered here, then I would be so happy.

Anyway, I would start packing all the things that we need after I finish all these writing assignments. We won’t stay there long as we’re going back on Monday but if you’re traveling with a child, you will always have lots of things to pack. Hahaha!

I hope we all have a great time. It’s been four months since we last saw them.

Travel Guides

Published by nice under Travel

Travel guides are a big help for tourists. We could not have survived our recent Singapore trip without it. Although we have friends there, we would not want to bother them to show us around. As long as we have these guides, we know where to go and how to get there.

This has proven helpful when we went on city tour on our last day. We found Merlion’s Park and Clark Quay on our own. We also got to the shopping centers with ease and bought some toys for the little boy.

I have a site that I frequently visit that provides all these travel guides and maps. It also includes Chicago travel guides and maps. Just let me know if you need the link.

Refreshed and Recharged

Published by nice under Andre Miguel, Just Me, Travel

It was a declared holiday yesterday and it was perfect timing as I am so exhausted for the past week. The demands at work is overwhelming add to that are my problems with our helper at home. It drained my energy. I needed some time to think, reflect and find a better way to do the things in the office and at home.

Yesterday, we went to Laguna for the congregation outing. It was just what I needed, warm fellowship with friends and time to just lie down and rest. M0rn1ng took care of the little boy while I slept. They were having a grand time at the swimming pool.
Later we sang our hearts out at the videoke machine. It was great and I woke this morning feeling recharged and energized. I think the R&R yesterday has achieved its purpose.

Going Places

Published by nice under Travel

I’m a relatively low maintenance person. I don’t own a lot of bags, shoes and clothes and as long as it is of good quality, I don’t mind if it isn’t branded. But there is one area where I really splurge and that is with regards to travel. We really save some money to go some place that we’ve never been before at least once a year.

So we’re always on the lookout for cheap flights because airfare would eat up the travel/vacation costs. So if I get a good airfare deal then we can save a lot. Then we look for a reasonably priced accommodation. For most parts we save a lot by staying on our friends place if available. If not then we choose hostels that are clean and strategically located.

Our next project is Hong Kong for next year. I hope we can save enough money for the trip.

Singapore Trip Day 2

Published by nice under Andre Miguel, Travel

M0rn1ng and I woke up at around 7 am. We took a bath and planned our itinerary for the day. We have to go back to our friend’s house in Marine Parade because we forgot to bring the battery charger for our camera. We need to walk a few distance to get to the bus stop to be able to catch bus #55 which is the shortest way to get to Marine Parade. It is hard to find the right way to go if you only got maps to assist you.

We had breakfast and B.boy woke up at around 10am. We left Serangoon at 11 and reach Marine Parade Neptune Court Bus stop at 11:45. However, heavy rain was pouring and we only got one small umbrella. We need to get to the other side so we will definitely get wet. We just waited for the rain to stop.

The heavy rains subsided after 20 minutes and we were able to find our way back to our friend’s place. We had lunch and planned our way to Sentosa. We boarded a bus that took us to Eunos MRT station at around 2pm. Then we transferred to purple line and hopped off at the Harbourfront Station. From there we rode a cable car to Sentosa. It was the boys’ first cable car ride and they were very excited. We bought a tour package at SGD54.80 each which includes: round rip cable car ride, Underwater World, Dolphin Show, and Cineblast. It also comes with the guided tour, island admission and sentosa bus or sentosa express ride. I think these tours are better because of it’s convenience. You avoid the queue to ride the buses and you have a guided tour. Just choose the one that is most applicable to your needs.

dsc05286.jpg

We reached Sentosa at around 3:30 and we met our tour guide in one of the souvenir shops. We boarded the bus that took us to the underwater world. We had a great time looking and touching some of the fishes and stingrays. The little boy loved the colorful corals and fishes. Their fish tunnel is also very beautiful. It make you feel that you are under the sea.

Next stop is the dolphin show. It was our first time to watch something like this. The little boy was clapping his hands while the dolphins are doing backflips. They even asked for volunteers who don’t mind getting wet. As a reward, the dolphins gave them a peck in the cheek. Awwww! We should have brought extra clothes had we known.

dsc05338.jpg

After that we went to watch extreme log ride at the Cine blast. We had a ride of our lives because of the latest high definition wide-screen projection, digital technologies and state of the art 6-axis motion system. At first we were afraid that B.boy will cry but thank goodness he did not. On the contrary he actually enjoyed it. I think the little boy is made for scary rides.

dsc05342.jpg

The tour ends with that and we boarded the bus to Beach Station to buy tickets for the Songs of the Sea. It is a mesmerizing show with a live cast and dramatic effects like pyrotechnics, water jets, brilliant lasers, special computer imaging, stunning flame bursts and captivating music. What can I say? The little boy was really amazed with the whole presentation. Tickets are sold at SGD6.

We went to see the Merlion after and rode the Sentosa Express to Vivocity. We had dinner at Food Republic, their very own food court. It was very nicely decorated, very far from the usual mall food court that we have here in the country.

dsc05369.jpg

The little boy did not take the afternoon nap during that day. I guess he was enchanted by the place and the experience. We saw that twinkle in his eyes and the look in his face that he’s having the time of his life and that is enough to make our hearts swell with happiness.

He fell asleep while we are on the train going back to Marine Parade. We arrived home at 11pm.

Stay tuned for Day 3.

Singapore Trip Day 1

Published by nice under Andre Miguel, M0rn1ng, Travel

We left the house at around 5:45 pm. We were at the airport at 20 minutes later and much to our dismay, the flight was delayed for an hour. By 7:30 we were done with checking in and immigration. We had dinner and went to the kiddie lounge to kill time. B.boy had a great time playing with the blocks and slides.

dsc05218.jpg

dsc05225.jpg

We boarded the plane at around 9pm. We noticed that B.boy has colds but good thing that he is still his usual playful self. We had cup noodles and crackers on the plane. We dozed off after.

The plane landed at around 1:30am. Our friend was there to fetch us and we arrived at their home at 2pm. B.boy has a slight fever so we were a little worried. He wasn’t feeling well in the morning so he took paracetamol. He was better at lunch time so went to Singapore Zoo. We noticed that the fever went back so we decided to drop by at our friend’s house at Serangoon. We just had lunch at Ang Mo Kio and we boarded bus number 73 to our friend’s house.

dsc05237.jpg

They are our neighbors before and they migrated to Singapore last May 5. B.boy and their little boy are good friends so they are so happy to see each other again. The little boy dozed off. He woke up at around 5:30pm and we had an early dinner at around 6pm. We head off to Night Safari after.

dsc05249.jpg

We were there at around 8:30pm. We took the tram that will take you around the park. It was amazing to see those wonderful animals bathe in moonlight err, in subdued artificial light but it has the same effect. The tour took around 45 minutes.

We went to see the creatures of the night show afterwards. They’ve got trained hyenas, owls, otters and snakes on the show. The show lasts for 30 minutes.

We were hungry after that so we grabbed some burgers at Bongo Burgers and headed back to our friend’s place at Serangoon. It was around an hour travel without the bus waiting time. So we were dead tired when we reached home.

Since B.boy missed his friend, they played until 1am. Only when we reprimanded them that they got ready to bed.

Some useful info…
Night Safari Admission & Tram > SGD 32

Cramming!

Published by nice under Just Me, My Thoughts, Travel

I woke up really early today. I have to finish all my blog assignments before we leave for Singapore later this evening. I’m not sure if I would have internet access while there. Besides we will be busy visiting the new places that I won’t have time to write anything. We want to maximize our three day stay.

I haven’t packed our bags yet. Hahaha! Talk about cramming. :) I must remember to stuff my bag with food and entertainment for the little boy. There is no food served at Cebu Pacific so I better be prepared.

And oh! I think I also need to go to Smart Wireless Center to activate the roaming function to my mobile phone. My boss might kill me if he can’t reach me. He’ll be at Japan this week so I guess he will be pretty busy too. Good thing, they haven’t issued my blackberry yet. This makes our vacation pretty exciting as I won’t have access to my work emails.

Wish me all the best that I could accomplish everything I need to do before we leave.

Busy to the Nth Level

Published by nice under Just Me, Office Tales, Travel

It’s a busy day again today. It seems like my days have been busier and busier and it is all because of work. Trying to balance it with other aspects of my life like family and spiritual pursuits has become very challenging.

One thing that keeps me going is looking forward to the Singapore trip on Monday. I can finally break free from work in the office and stress. I’ve delegated all my tasks to the team and discussed each one. I hope there won’t be any big issues coming up so they won’t have to call me when I’m having the well-deserved break.

I’m just cramming at the moment because I haven’t prepared for the trip. I didn’t have time to research on places notable to visit and to dine. I hope we can still have a worry-free and good vacation because of that. Anybody who would like to give me tips? I need that badly.

Then, I have to finish all my blog assignments. Have to write about gazillion of things like office space Connecticut, walk in tubs and other stuff. I think I won’t be able to blog hop for the next weeks and after my return because there will be too much to catch up with work.

Enjoy the weekend!

Summer is Over?

Published by nice under Just Me, Travel

I’m really sad because summer is already over and we hadn’t had the chance to hit the beach unlike the previous years. Last 2005 we went to Cebu and Bohol then 2006 it was the beaches at Ilocos. We were at Bora last year. But this year, it was nothing. We were so busy at work and with the everday activities that we didn’t got the chance to plan for a getaway. :(

Anyway, we have some out of town trips coming up. The Singapore getaway on the week of 26th then the Baguio trip early June. I hope this will push through. I need a break badly. Work in the office has been TOXIC for the past couple of months that I don’t know if I made the right decision or not. huhuhuhu..

How about you? Where have you been this summer?

Zero Comes Before Juan

Published by nice under Bargains, Travel

I’m so happy because we finally booked a flight to Davao. We were looking for cheap flights a few months ago but there was none. Even the Palakbayan offerings are too expensive for us to grab.

So I was glad to receive an email today regarding Cebu Pac’s recent promo. The offer zero fares to domestic and international flights. The promotional seat sale will run from May 15 to 18, 2008 or until the allocated 500,000 seats are sold out. Travel period is from June 9 to December 31, 2008.

We booked for 7 pax and we are leaving for Davao with my family mid October. This will be our anniversary gift to my parents this May 19.

My officemates got round trip tickets to Singapore for only Php 3,794. Good deal di ba?

Missing the Beach

Published by nice under Just Me, Travel

Summer time is here once again and I’m longing to lounge in the beach while reading a good book and sipping a refreshing shake. Or maybe enjoy a relaxing massage while inhaling the salt water breeze.

My ideal beaches were the ones at the Riviera Maya. There are a number of all-inclusive resorts that offers premium holidays. You can just imagine luxurious beach beds, beach bar swings, hot tubs and hammocks, rooms with ocean view and exquisite food carefully prepared by renowned chefs from the freshest produce in the market.

This is my ideal and dream summer getaway. So sad, the summer is ending and I haven’t got the chance to hit the beach. :(

Cruises

Published by nice under Travel

What would be your dream vacation? Mine would be aboard a cruise ship. If money is not an object then this will be what I dream to be an ideal honeymoon. Here are the top 3 cruise ships:

Royal Caribbean

Their ships have a very nice lounge that gives passengers access to breathtaking views, onboard rock climbing walls, bars, spas, gyms and dining halls. They also have special program for kids which they call Adventure Ocean. This will keep the kids busy and entertained. They run different kid of programs depending on their age.

They also have privately owned resorts where they stop for Caribbean and Bahamas routes. These island resorts are pure paradise.

Princess Cruises

These were the ships seen on the TV series Love Boat. Pretty famous huh?! They have excellent customer service and it even allows personalization of the whole vacation. This is all about choices and they make sure you are boss as you can choose every aspect of the vacation; from the cabin to your choice of dining.

They can take you to wonderful Africa, or to the mystical Greece to the bright and sunny Hawaii.

Norwegian Cruise Lines

They offer a lot of good destinations. They have three to four night tours on tropical Carribbean, seven night cruise to discover ancient civilization in Buenos Aires, or ice world adventure offered by an Alaskan cruise.

If only money isn’t a problem, we’ll be cruising away.   :)
